Golden Gate Village in Marin City has two new public art installations to honor the community’s history and culture.
The project is a collaboration between the nonprofit group Performing Stars of Marin and Dominican University of California in San Rafael. The works, found at the pickleball courts and on garbage bins, are inspired by Marinship workers and Black quilting artists.
“I wanted everyone to know about Marin City history, so the legacy is always in people’s faces and it’s always prevalent and never forgotten,” said Felecia Gaston, the founder of Performing Stars.
The dumpster murals painted on Thursday were designed by Performing Stars participants between first and sixth grades and honors program students from the university. The bins on Drake Avenue were decorated with designs inspired by quilters.
