One Stride at a Time 5K Recap

This past May we hosted our first-ever One Stride at a Time 5k for Hope, Help, and Recovery. We had 94 participants who came out to run/walk for mental health, substance use recovery, and overdose prevention. We were joined by 15 partners providing community resources: Find Your Way, OD Free Marin, First Responder Therapy Dogs, Marin County Youth Commission, BHRS, TAY Radio, Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, Felton Institute, New Beginnings Law Center, and Marin County Cooperation Team.

Additionally, at the event we hosted a shoe drive and we collected over 50 pairs of shoes that will be donated to individuals in need through partnership with Bloom marin.

We heard from our youth speaker, Sierra Cilento who shared an inspirational speech with her lived experiences surrounding overdose. We also held a raffle that included t-shirts and goodie bags put together by First Responders Therapy Dogs. And of course, Bart the Recovery Heart, our awesome mascot made for a special surprise.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and organizations that made this event possible. We could not have done this without you and we are extremely grateful for your support throughout the event.

Disha Divakar, the Founder and lead of One Stride 5k shared her thoughts following this impactful event, “I feel beyond blessed and inspired seeing the amount of community members who showed up in support of promoting these life-saving messages and initiatives for hope, help and recovery. Our community truly came together from all different walks of life to stride together. It shows that change can be done when we come together and boost eachother. Each stride and each participant made such a huge impact that I hope everybody realizes and is proud of! Keep striding, one day at a time, and I can’t wait for more!”
